Effect of temperature on spin–orbit torque in compensated ferrimagnetic Mn2.21Ru0.86Ga/Pt heterostructure

Abstract Compensated ferrimagnets combine the advantages of the low magnetic moment of antiferromagnets and the ease of magnetic reading of ferromagnets. In this work, we investigate the non-monotonic temperature dependence of the spin–orbit torque in compensated ferrimagnetic Heusler alloys Mn 2.21 Ru 0.86 Ga with excess Mn atoms replacing Ru atoms. We determine the effective spin Hall angle of MRG (15 nm)/Pt (4 nm) heterostructure to be 0.247 at room temperature, which is much higher than most conventional ferromagnetic/non-magnetic systems. Furthermore, increasing the thickness of the magnetic layer enhances the field-like effective field due to the Rashba–Edelstein effect interaction. Combining with the promising properties of Heusler alloys, such as high spin polarization and low damping, this heterostructure offers a potential candidate for high density, high stability, and high power efficient spintronic devices.
