Der Sarmatische Steppen-Kiefernwald – eine Lücke im System?
The Sarmatian steppe pine forest – a gap in the system? // The Sarmatian steppe pine forest is not only one of the most species-rich and endangered habitats in Germany, but also a potential seed stock due to its climate tolerance. HEMP et al. (2022) recorded the condition and distribution of pine forests in the northern Franconian Jura over several decades. It was found that around 99 % of the stands have been lost since 1950, despite Natura 2000 protection status. The reasons for this include gaps in the implementation of German-European nature conservation law and conflicts of interest with forestry policy to promote mixed stands in the face of climate change.
