Study on acoustic emission detection of failure load in high strength aluminum alloy reinforced cylinder section

In order to meet the demand of high efficiency, low cost and high performance development of the new launch vehicle capsule, the thin-walled stiffened capsule was manufactured by extrusion forming method. In this paper, axial tensile load and compressive failure load tests are carried out to verify the bearing performance of the product. In the test, acoustic emission (AE) behavior of the product is monitored during deformation and fracture, and the failure area is predicted in advance by analyzing the amplitude and energy change curves under different load conditions. The obvious axial buckling phenomenon was observed on the outer surface of the product after the test, which corresponded with the area with high AE energy. This AE analysis method can be applied to the failure load test of other materials in engineering, which can provide on-line detection information for product damage.
