The psychoanalytic art of living; or: learning to love one's fate

Abstract The primary aim of this essay is to reconstruct Mari Ruti’s psychoanalytically informed theory of the good life or the art of living, with special attention to three themes: the rewriting of fate, the transformation of loss into creativity, and the acceptance of transience. I further suggest that the thread that connects these three aspects of the good life is Ruti’s psychoanalytic understanding of amor fati , love of one’s fate.
