Evolving star-shaped curves to equichordal curves

A new curve flow is introduced for the evolution of star-shaped curves. It is proved that this flow, with an initial star-shaped curve, exists globally, keeps the star shape of the evolving curve and drives it to converge to an equichordal curve as time tends to infinity. In particular, under this flow, the limit curve is a circle if and only if the initial star-shaped curve is centrosymmetric.

Abstract

A new curve flow is introduced for the evolution of star-shaped curves. It is proved that this flow, with an initial star-shaped curve, exists globally, keeps the star shape of the evolving curve and drives it to converge to an equichordal curve as time tends to infinity. In particular, under this flow, the limit curve is a circle if and only if the initial star-shaped curve is centrosymmetric.
