Design of H-Shape Open Slot Loaded Dual Band Microstrip Patch Antenna for Internet of Things (IoT) and Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) Applications

This paper presents a dual band square shape microstrip patch antenna of overall size 40×40 mm2 consisting an open H-shape slot inside the patch. IE3D software is used to design and simulation of presented antenna using microstrip line feed. The dual band antenna resonates at 2.53 GHz and 3.96 GHz having return losses of −25.90 dB and −36.89 dB. Impedance bandwidth of 380 MHz (15.08%) and 480 MHz (12.12%) is obtained in lower and upper bands from frequency range 3.14 to 3.48 GHz and 4.77 to 5.37 GHz respectively. The presented antenna exhibits peak gain of 3.77 dB and 4.87 dB while antenna efficiency of 88.76% and 85.96% at operating frequencies 2.53 GHz and 3.96 GHz. Moreover, the VSWR value of antenna is 1.107 at 2.53 GHz and 1.029 at 3.96 GHz. The presented antenna of dual band characteristics is suitable for IoT in S-band and FSS (Fixed Satellite Service) in C-band applications.
