Analysis and Optimization of Wind Farm Operational Performance
With the deteriorating global environment and the increasing scarcity of non-renewable energy sources, the development of renewable and clean wind energy has become one of the energy goals of various countries. Based on the principle of wind power generation, this paper determines the main indexes for evaluating wind energy resources through statistical analysis and establishes relevant mathematical models. First, we use the raw data to calculate the two indicators of monthly average wind speed and monthly average wind power density, and conclude that wind resources are most abundantly utilized in February and December, and are poorer in August. Then, we exclude the data with wind speed less than 4m/s as invalid data, and obtain the monthly effective hours, the monthly effective average wind speed and the monthly effective wind power again - it still comes to the conclusion that the months of February and December are the richest time for wind energy, and the month of August is the most available time for wind energy utilization. We compare the two sets of data and we observe that the culled data has better utilization of the wind resource as compared to the original data. Further, we introduce two new metrics, monthly effective equivalent wind speed and monthly effective wind energy utilization, to compare the wind resource and its utilization with the rating metrics in the culled data, and conclude that the utilization of the wind resource is seasonally dependent, with the winter months (January, February and December) being the most wind-rich time, and the summer months (July and August) being the poorest time for the utilization of the wind resource.
