Enhanced VSG Transient Power Angle Stability Transient Damping Design
Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) can provide voltage and frequency support to the grid, but when the grid is in fault condition, the power angle instability problem similar to that of synchronous generators will occur. In this paper, the mechanism of the influence of VSG damping parameters on the transient stability of the system is investigated by using the phase plane diagram, the relationship between the transient damping parameters and the power angle stability of the VSG system is qualitatively analyzed by using the root trajectory diagram and the dominant pole method, and an optimized damping design criterion to enhance the power angle stability of the VSG is proposed, and an algorithmic flow is designed to quantitatively compute the transient damping parameters by solving the third-order nonlinear equation of state. a MATLAB simulation model is constructed, and the simulation results show that the introduction of transient damping and reasonable configuration of transient damping parameters can improve the transient power angle stability of the system.
