Experimental Study on Temperature Distribution of Porcelain Insulators for HVDC Transmission Lines
The infrared method has increasingly been employed to inspect in-service HVAC porcelain insulators on power transmission lines during recent years. However, the voltage as well as temperature distribution in the HVDC case are much different from those in the case of HVAC, hindering the application of infrared technology in the fault inspection of HVDC insulators. In this paper, the temperature distribution of an HVDC 9-insulator string has been studied through comparative experimental studies, in terms of different defection types and different positions in the string. The aim of this work is to attempt to explore possible infrared criterion for the inspections on defected HVDC porcelain insulators.
