Study of a CART-AFT method for automatic generation of unstructured meshes

The automation and intelligence of mesh generation is one of the bottleneck problems restricting the development of computational fluid dynamics. The quality and efficiency of mesh generation affect the accuracy and efficiency of numerical computation. Aiming at the problem of cumbersome intersection judgment in the traditional advancing front method (AFT), a CART-AFT method for automatic generation of unstructured meshes is proposed, and a CART model suitable for mesh data processing is designed, which is applied to predict the generation mode and new point coordinate in the mesh generation of AFT. The CART-AFT method is used to generate several classic two-dimensional unstructured meshes (30P30N three-element airfoil, NACA 0012 airfoil, a set of single-joint fractures, two-dimensional cylinder). Specific methods are adopted to test the mesh quality, quantity and generation time consumption, and comparisons are made with the traditional AFT and the mainstream ANN-AFT method. The results show that on the premise of equivalent generated mesh quality, the CART-AFT method reduces the mesh quantity by 2.65% and shortens the generation time by about 7% compared with the ANN-AFT algorithm, and reduces the mesh quantity by 6.98% and shortens the generation time by about 16.7% compared with the traditional AFT method.
