An Innovative Hybrid Excited Switched Reluctance Motor for Enhanced Performance: Design, Analysis, and Experimental Study
This paper introduces an innovative hybrid excited switched reluctance motor (HESRM) with a stator common pole configuration. The permanent magnets (PMs) are positioned between the stator teeth and the stator common pole. The primary effect of these PMs is to mitigate magnetic saturation in the magnetic flux within the stator common pole, stator yoke, and stator pole. Consequently, the magnetic flux in the air gap increases, substantially improving the generated electromagnetic torque. Furthermore, the magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) demonstrates that when both sets of PMs are integrated into the structure, the magnetic flux in the air gap experiences an increase. This paper also delineates two operational states: non-overlapping phase-excitation (with 120 electrical degrees), where only one phase is energized at a time, and overlapping phase-excitation (with 180 electrical degrees), where two consecutive phases exhibit a 60 electrical degree overlap. The proposed HESRM is subject to optimization using a genetic algorithm (GA) to achieve the best torque performance. Additionally, its dynamic and static characteristics are compared with conventional SRMs, several hybrid reluctance motors, and a Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet (FSPM) motor. A prototype of the proposed motor topology was constructed to validate its performance. The motor's simulation and experimental results closely align .
