A Digitalized Clock Drawing Test to Enhance Dementia Screening Intentions in Asian Older Adults
Dementia poses a global health challenge, with Asia shouldering a significant burden. Despite the benefits of early detection, screening rates among seniors remain low. This paper investigates strategies to enhance dementia screening intentions among Asian older adults through a two-stage study. In Study 1, using a Theory of Planned Behavior-based framework, we identified key barriers, including limited accessibility and financial concerns, which negatively impact dementia screening intentions. These insights informed the development of a digitalized Clock Drawing Test (DigiCDT), a cost-effective and accessible self-screening tool for home and community use. Study 2 evaluated the DigiCDT, demonstrating high acceptability and increased screening intentions when the app was free and accessible. Important insights, such as reduced familiarity with analog clocks and preferences for community-integrated screening, highlight the need to adapt strategies to cultural differences and technological shifts. This research underscores the potential of digital tools to enhance dementia screening accessibility and participation.
