Smart Care Solution for Smart Home Devices

The limited repairability and short lifecycle of smart home devices is contributing to the growing global electronic waste (e-waste) issue. Despite their convenience, these smart devices are frequently discarded due to high repair costs, complex proprietary designs, and restricted access to necessary repair resources. This study presents the design of a mobile application aimed to enhance repairability and lifecycle management for smart home devices. Through a user-centered design approach, which included surveys and participatory design sessions with users, this research identifies common barriers to device repair and integrates user insights to guide iterative app development. Key features such as a centralised dashboard, diagnostic tools, repair tutorials, and community support, address user needs while promoting sustainable everyday technology practices. By empowering users to manage and extend the lifespan of their devices, this application is expected to contribute to reducing e-waste by aligning with circular economy principles for sustainable technology use.
