Building Bridges
Abstract This annual lecture for The International Journal of Restorative Justice reimagines how feminist movements can address internal divides by grounding their advocacy in restorative justice. Feminism often struggles with tensions fuelled by competing priorities, donor-driven agendas, and a failure to fully embrace intersectionality. Restorative justice offers a relational framework that transforms these challenges into opportunities for solidarity, accountability, and sustainable activism. A decolonised restorative justice lens prioritises dialogue, lived experiences, and community-led practices, rejecting one-size-fits-all solutions. By embracing inclusivity and contextual adaptation, restorative justice strengthens feminist coalitions, fostering collaboration over conflict. This lecture argues that weaving restorative justice into feminist advocacy not only resolves divisions but also builds pathways for justice rooted in solidarity and shared accountability. Restorative justice is not just a tool for conflict resolution – it’s a blueprint for transformative, intersectional, and resilient movements.
