Orwell and Hai: A Contemporary and Comparative Reread of the Language of Politics
This article offers a contemporary and comparative reinterpretation of political language, and it explores the vital role of language as it shapes the individual and collective consciousness and it's function as a powerful political tool. This analysis is conducted in the context of George Orwell's 'Politics and the English Language' and selected essays from Muhammad Abdul Hye's 'Toshamod O Rajinitir Bhasha [The Language of Ingratiation and Politics]', both of which offer impartial demonstrations of political language. Both Orwell and Hye, demonstrated how language serves as a potent tool of political influence by depicting the realities of their respective eras. However, their approaches to presentation, elaboration, analysis, and expressive style differ. In addition to the comparison and contrast to the works of Orwell and Hye, this article seeks to examine how, across diverse cultural and historical contexts, both authors have upheld linguistic clarity and individual linguistic freedom as the stronghold against political manipulation.
