The problematic of authenticity and contemporary in arab-islamic thought, a reading in the conflict of intellectual currents

The article addresses the Problematic of authenticity and Contemporary in Arab and Islamic thought, by discussing the intellectual orientations of three main currents: Salafism, liberalism, and Marxism. The Salafi current sees backwardness as a result of abandoning Islamic values and heritage due to foreign invasion, and focuses on returning to the old Islamic civilizational model. While the Liberal current links backwardness to subjective flaws in the structure of Arab society, and calls for the adopting the modern European civilizational model to achieve progress. As for the Marxist current, it focuses on criticizing other ideologies and suffers from the absence of a comprehensive factual analysis, while remaining confined to the dialectical theoretical framework. The article concluded that despite the divergent theses of these currents, they lacked realistic comprehensive solutions to the crisis of civilizational backwardness. All of them fell into the selectivity in dealing with heritage and its association with theoretical discourses rather than practical applications, which limited their ability to bring about radical and effective change.
