INVITED: A Position on Network Management and Control for Dynamic Real-Time Systems
The current trend towards convergence of general-purpose and real-time networks has created several challenges and research opportunities. This long abstract summarizes the corresponding invited talk in which we will address such challenges and present a tour of a research line, namely the Flexible Time-Triggered paradigm, that focused on providing real-time communication to open, reconfigurable and adaptive systems. This research line ultimately led to several efforts based on Software-Defined Networking. Lastly we raise the question of whether the current Time-Sensitive Networking family of standards provides a sufficient level of flexibility.
