Peran Lingkungan Pesantren dalam Pembentukan Karakter Religius Santri: Studi Kasus di Pondok Pesantren Al-Hasani Pontianak

This study aims to describe the role of the pesantren environment in shaping students' religious character, using a case study at Al-Hasani Islamic Boarding School in Pontianak. Employing a qualitative approach and case study method, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the caregiver, educators, and students, and documentation of daily pesantren activities. The findings reveal that the religious atmosphere of the pesantren, the exemplary conduct of the kyai and teachers, and the consistent implementation of religious routines significantly influence the development of students’ religious character, such as worship obedience, noble behavior, and social concern. Religious values are internalized through formal, non-formal, and informal approaches that are embedded in students’ daily lives. Supporting factors include students’ internal motivation, a strong pesantren culture, and parental support, while inhibiting factors involve fatigue, interpersonal conflicts, and lack of external environmental support. In conclusion, the pesantren environment plays a strategic role as an effective, comprehensive, and sustainable medium for fostering students’ religious character.
