Abstract 3381: Patient characteristics and recommendations from a multi-institution Precision Oncology Tumor Board

Abstract Background: The Precision Oncology Tumor Board (POTB) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) advances cancer treatment through molecular profiling and personalized recommendations. Studies link molecular tumor boards to improved outcomes. POTB integrates multidisciplinary expertise across institutions to provide therapeutic and trial recommendations based on clinical and genomic data. The PROMOTE (PRecision Oncology: Measuring Outcomes and Treatment Effectiveness) study is a retrospective analysis of cases presented at the UIC POTB and here we report the patient demographics, clinical characteristics, and recommendations from the first two years of this program. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed attendee specialties, patient demographics, tumor characteristics, and treatment recommendations from cases reviewed (September 2022-October 2024). Descriptive statistics captured data on age, sex, race, ethnicity, cancer type, stage, insurance, diagnosis timing, biomarker class, FDA approval status, recommendation type, and trial options. Results: A total of 120 healthcare professionals participated across 22 POTB sessions, averaging 29 attendees per session, including medical oncologists and hematology/oncology fellows (53%), pharmacists (33%), pathologists, genetic counselors, industry partners, and trainees. Of the 81 cases presented, the mean patient age was 59 years, with 33% aged >64 years and 58% aged 40-64 years. Of the patients, 49% were female, 35% were Black, 40% White, and 19% Hispanic. The most common cancer types included lung (33%), genitourinary (19%), and gastrointestinal (14%), with 79% of cases involving stage IV disease. Treatment recommendations included clinical trial recommendations (68% of cases) and FDA-approved therapies outside their labeled indications (56% of cases). Targeted therapies were recommended in 50% of cases, followed by additional testing (16%) and immunotherapy (12%). Germline testing was completed or recommended in 62% of cases. Conclusions: This retrospective analysis highlights one of the most racially and ethnically diverse molecular tumor board patient cohorts reported in the literature. Recommendations from UIC POTB demonstrate the feasibility of integrating precision oncology into practice, with implications for expanding access to targeted therapies and clinical trials for underrepresented populations. Future efforts will focus on linking recommendations to outcomes, refining treatment strategies, and enhancing equity in precision oncology.
