The correction of convicts is a complex psychological process of influencing the personality with the aim of transforming him/her. It requires a deep understanding of the individual characteristics and potential of the released person. The lack of clear scientific criteria for assessing the degree of correction significantly reduces the effectiveness of the system of correctional institutions in Russia. The solution of this problem involves active interdepartmental cooperation between state bodies, penitentiary institutions and civil society institutions to ensure the safety of the social environment. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of activities aimed at correcting released persons from places of deprivation of liberty by identifying psychological problems that affect the recidivism of convicts, their rehabilitation, and overcoming the difficulties of contact with the population. Their results are subsequently taken into account by institutions of the penal correction system, state institutions of the employment and social services, local governments, and civil society institutions. Methods of observation, psychological and pedagogical experiment and others were used in studying the personality of the offender. Research results.
