Leadership Factors Influencing Implementation Of Competency-Based Curriculum In Baringo County, Kenya

The implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Baringo County faces significant challenges primarily due to leadership-related issues. This study investigates the government, institutional, and societal leadership factors influencing the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Baringo County, Kenya. Based on a survey of 720 educators and officials using stratified random and purposive sampling, the study found that inadequate government funding (51%), limited teacher training and capacity building (21%), weak institutional support such as poor school culture (26%) and low teacher motivation (20%), and insufficient supervision hinder effective CBC implementation. The research emphasizes that successful leadership is crucial to overcoming these barriers and recommends increased government funding, continuous professional development for teachers, stronger monitoring and supervision systems, and greater stakeholder involvement. Addressing these leadership gaps is vital for improving CBC adoption and enhancing learning outcomes.
