Promising breeding material of spring barley for extreme northern conditions of the Russian Federation
Increasing the gross grain harvest is the main task of agricultural production. One of the most important grain crops for the Northern region is spring barley. Due to its versatility and versatile use (food, feed and brewing applications), high yield, early maturity, spring barley is second in value only to wheat in the country. In this regard, the most effective way to increase gross grain yields is to create varieties, the main role is assigned to the scientifically based selection of the source material and its further introduction into the breeding process. The purpose of the research is to analyze and evaluate the breeding numbers according to the main economic and biological characteristics of the final stage of breeding work (competitive variety testing), to identify breeding material corresponding to the conditions of high grain productivity, resistance to stress factors of the Northern region of the Russian Federation. In the laboratory of crop production of the N. Laverov Federal Center for Integrated Arctic Research of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 48 promising samples of spring barley for the period 2020-2022, under various meteorological conditions, were studied in the nursery of competitive variety testing. According to the results of the study, 8 promising samples of spring barley were identified according to economically valuable characteristics, the results of which are shown in the article. The yield value in relation to the standard Tausen variety, the weight of 1000 grains, the length of the growing season, resistance to lodging, damage by dusty smut and spots, and the protein content in the grain were determined. The results presented in the article characterize the breeding material as meeting the requirements for grain-feed barley varieties.
