ECMWF’s societal impact through service provision, partnerships and collaborations
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) mission is to deliver high-quality global medium-range numerical weather predictions and monitoring of the Earth system to its Member States, but its benefits reach far beyond thanks to the vast network of relationships that ECMWF has developed since it was created. There are multiple reasons for the success of ECMWF: scientific and technical excellence, high-quality service provision, its intergovernmental status, and an appropriate level of investment and support from its Member States. This paper concentrates on discussing how partnerships, collaborations and interaction with the user community contribute to shaping ECMWF activities and to maximizing its societal impact.
