THE THEORY OF MEANING ACCORDING TO HAZEM AL-QARTAJANI AND ROLAND BARTH

Those who follow the ancient rhetorical research among the Arabs will find the same perceptions and concepts that have been presented now in the West. This is because the Arabs established theories but neglected in application, i.e. establishing studies to apply them to them. The West established the application of these theories, and we can attribute this to their transfer from the Arabs, or because They were influenced by Greek philosophy, such as the philosophy of Plato and Aristotle, which played an important role in Arabic literature and still produces and influences modern literary theories to this day .I examined the issue of meaning, which has a great resonance in the field of criticism, past and present, and I studied it among the Arabs, represented by the opinion of Hazem Al-Qurtajani (608-684 AH / 1211-1284 AD), and in the West I took the opinion of Roland Barthes (1915-1980 AD).Al-Qurtajani lived in the twelfth century AD.In the twentieth century AD, we will understand the meaning of each of them.
