A Compact Dual Band Circularly Polarized Planar Antenna

The current investigation presents a dual-band antenna characterized by circular polarization and high gain. The final antenna provides impedance bandwidth (2.5 - 4.45) GHz and (5.8 - 10.2) GHz. The 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth spans (2.9 - 3.3) GHz and (9.6 - 10.15) GHz. Furthermore, the designed antenna provides a narrow AR bandwidth (7.7 - 7.85) GHz. The proposed antenna is capable of radiating a LHCP wave in the upper frequency range and a RHCP wave within the lower frequency range. The 3 dB AR bandwidth is realized through the strategic placement of two rectangular cuts at the opposite corners of the modified ground plane, truncation of the opposite corners of the radiating element, as well as embedding two opposite C-shaped metallic strips in the ground. The antenna's peak gain in the desired band extends from 7.57 dBi to 11.24 dBi. The suggested antenna is compatible with IEEE 802.16a application requirements.
