A Miniaturised Honeycomb-Shaped Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) for mmWave 5G Applications
In this work, a single-layer integrated decagon honeycomb-shaped symmetric Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) is analyzed. This FSS structure is composed of four quad-decagon-shaped radiating elements joined together with locus fragments designed on the substrate material. This FSS unit cell has been improved by increasing the radiating elements. The suggested FSS unit cell has a reduced overall dimension of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2.6\times 2.6 \text{mm}^2$</tex>. Therefore, it provides adequate band stop response at the resonant frequency of 24.5 GHz (millimeter wave). This design provides higher angular stability and is polarization independent for different angles of incidence. Additionally, the proposed FSS offers angular stability in both the Transverse Magnetic (TM) and Transverse Electric (TE) modes of operation. The suggested FSS is appropriate for shielding in future 5G and millimeter-wave wireless communication networks due to its low cost, small size, and inventive design.
