Exploring Depression and Co-Dependency Among Spouses of Individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder

The quantitative approach with exploratory research design was used for the present study aiming in assessing the existing level of depression & codependency among wives of alcoholics and to find out the association between the existing level of depression and co-dependency among wives of alcoholic with their selected demographic variables. A total of 100 wives of alcoholics, who met the inclusion criteria, was recruited using convenience sampling technique as the study participants. The level of codependency and depression were measured using Zung self-rating depression scale and Co-Dependency scale. The study concluded that, the wives of alcoholics 96(96%) had moderate depression and 98(98%) are moderately co-dependent. The demographic variables had not shown statistically significant association with level of depression and co-dependency among wives of alcoholics at p<0.05 level.
