Multi-Wavelength Enhanced Optical Half-Adder Circuit Using MRR assisted with Mach–Zehnder Interferometric Structure
This paper proposes a novel multi-wavelength optical half-adder circuit based on an active microring resonator (MRR) integrated with a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure. The circuit employs two silicon microring resonators (Si-Mrrs), each with a single input. One MRR is placed in the upper arm of the MZI, while the other is configured in tandem within the lower arm. The device performs half-adder operations on two input signals at specific wavelengths, leveraging the switching characteristics of the active MRRs. The MZI controls the light’s phase and selects the circuit’s output wavelength. Logic levels are defined as -1.85 V for logic 0 and +2 V for logic 1. The output terminals function as an optical AND gate, yielding the carry bit (CB), and an optical EX-OR gate, providing the sum bit (SB). MATLAB simulations validate the design, demonstrating high extinction ratios and low crosstalk.
