Preparation and Characterization of Cellulose/SiO2-Based Graphene Oxide Composite Films with Improved Mechanical Properties
The valuable use of coal-based solid waste has recently emerged as a major area of research for sustainable development, with the potential to reduce synthesis costs and environmental risks. This study prepared cellulose, Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), and Graphene Dioxide (GO) nanocomposites using the Sol-gel technique. GO was dispersed by ultrasonication process for 1 hour and synthesized with Cellulose/SiO2 composites with different percentages of 0, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.8%. The prepared specimens were characterized by mechanical properties, XRD, and FTIR tests. The tensile results show the highest tensile strength of 149.4 MPa for CS/SiO2/GO0.5 with an elongation of 20%, and Young's modulus of 7.14 GPa. X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy characterized and analyzed the important peaks and bonding. Hence, this study displayed that the CS/SiO2/GO nanocomposites effectively improved the mechanical properties.
