Design and Implementation of a Modular Switch Circuit Board for Dynamic Battery Reconfiguration
Reconfigurable battery systems (RBSs) can be deployed to enhance the operational safety and efficiency of battery-powered applications, offering key functionalities such as fault isolation, charge balancing, energy delivery extension. This study presents the design and implementation of a modular switch circuit board for RBSs based on optocoupler-driven MOSFETs. By providing electrical isolation between low-voltage control signals and high-voltage power components, not only can the control side be protected, but the electromagnetic interference can be significantly reduced. Moreover, the designed gate control enables rapid and stable switch operations for dynamic battery reconfiguration. Based on such modular switch circuit boards, a closed-loop control testbed is set up for exploring various functionalities of RBSs. Experimental results validate the RBS's ability to quickly isolate battery cells with short circuits, overvoltage, or overtemperature, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the remaining battery cells.
