Optimal Locations and Sizing for Dynamic Wireless Charging Facilities in Sustainable Transportation Systems
This paper investigates a novel non-deterministic polynomial-hard (NP-hard) road network optimization problem, the dynamic wireless charging (DWC) facility location problem (DWCF-LP) with paving length optimization, which considers the total social cost of deploying wireless charging infrastructure in an urban road network. A major challenge is to form a closed-loop system by coupling traffic flow and wireless charging facility location decisions. To address the problem, this paper proposes a problem-specific metaheuristic approach based on Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS). The solution algorithm introduces a logit-based stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) model to simulate drivers' route choices and charging behavior. Specialized destroy and repair operators tailored to the problem characteristics are designed to improve the convergence rate and accuracy further. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed metaheuristic approach is both efficient and effective in solving the DWCF-LP problem, and also verify the impact of introducing the DWC system on urban transportation.
