Development of VSS-FOCV, and IC MPPT Controllers for PEMFC Systems
Due to versatility in extreme weather moments, simple-to-install, reliable, eco-friendly, renewable energy systems are being adopted by most power production companies today. Fuel cells are the most used since they emit only water, convert hydrogen into electricity effectively, and provide critical clean energy. They build up a low-carbon economy, reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and improve transport efficiency. However, since the fuel cell modules have a non-linear power generation capability, this becomes a concern that can be solved by using Perturb and Observe (P&O), Incremental Conductance (Inc), and fractional voltage Maximum Power Point Tracking Technology (MPPT) technologies. In this work, these algorithms are studied for tracing the MPP of the fuel cell and are compared in terms of flexibility, concurrency, versatility, and the ability to process huge amounts of unstructured data. Finally, to enhance the drawbacks associated with low current and low voltage levels of the fuel cell a boost converter is recommended. Here, the proposed system is simulated using the MATLAB Simulink tool.
