The Application of AI Translation Tools in Improving Students’ Translation Fidelity and Accuracy
Fidelity means that the translator should accurately convey the information, meaning and style of the original text in the translated text. Accuracy requires that the translator should pay attention to the writing habits of the target language and avoid rigid translation or grammatical errors in translation. Traditional translation teaching emphasizes theory teaching and repetitive practice, and it focuses on the cultivation of translation foundational skills. However, as AI technology develops fast and neural machine translation tools emerge, translation teaching sees new development opportunities. The aim of this study is to compare traditional translation teaching with those supported by neural machine translation tools and then deeply analyze the differences between the two. The research question is whether using neural machine translation tools in translation teaching can significantly enhance students’ translation fidelity and accuracy. The significance of this research lies in comparing the differences between traditional translation teaching methods and NMT tool-assisted teaching. The study conducted a quasi-experimental study to answer this question. It divides the participants into two groups, with one group learning with artificial intelligence translation tools and the other group still use traditional translation teaching method. Then multidimensional quality indicators were used to quantitatively analyze the results. The results show that neural machine translation tools make great improvement in students’ translation quality. They give empirical evidence for translation teaching innovations and offer references for the optimization of future translation course design.
