Poly(Butanediol Sebacate‐Butanediol Terephthalate) (<scp>PBSeT</scp>)/Zinc Gluconate (<scp>ZG</scp>) Nanocomposite Films: A Comprehensive Investigation of Mechanical, Thermal, Rheological, and Degradation Properties

ABSTRACT Poly(butanediol sebacate‐butanediol terephthalate) (PBSeT) has emerged as a promising biodegradable material, attributed to its excellent tensile strength and water vapor barrier properties. However, certain challenges persist, including susceptibility to puncture and tearing. To solve these problems, the researchers developed a composite material consisting of PBSeT and zinc gluconate (ZG) to improve the performance of PBSeT through the synergistic effect of ionic and hydrogen bonds. Notably, the tearing strength of the PBSeT/ZG‐3 composite exhibits a remarkable increase of 48.7% relative to PBSeT alone, while the puncture load is enhanced by 25.3%. Furthermore, XRD and TG analyses indicate that the incorporation of ZG has a negligible impact on the crystallinity and thermal stability of the composites. Interestingly, the enzymatic degradation properties are significantly improved with increasing ZG content, and the enhanced hydrophilicity imparted by ZG results in a reduction in the water contact angle of the composite materials. In conclusion, the integration of ZG significantly enhances the puncture resistance, tear strength, and biodegradability of PBSeT. These advancements are critical for the development and implementation of novel applications, particularly in the fields of food packaging, films, and medical materials.

In conclusion, the integration of ZG significantly enhances the puncture resistance, tear strength, and biodegradability of PBSeT. These advancements are critical for the development and implementation of novel applications, particularly in the fields of food packaging, films, and medical materials.
