Laboratory information systems for pathomorphology departments (review).
Laboratory information systems (LIS) create optimal conditions for improving the quality and speed of work of both individual units (laboratory, clinical departments) and the entire health care system. Modern LIS consist of complex, interconnected sofware and infrastructure, providing a wide range of information processing needs of different parts of the medical institution. Optimally designed software of the pathomorphology department plays a key role in the workflow of laboratory technicians, pathomorphologists and clinicians, provides control of the study progress, reliable data storage, as well as quick access to the study results. The article provides an overview of various LIS for pathomorphology currently used in the Russian Federation. With the development of high technologies there are more and more opportunities to automate various processes and optimize the work of both individual laboratories and health care institutions as a whole. The use of information systems makes it possible to solve these tasks more efficiently by reducing time costs for examinations, increasing the number of the latter, reducing the share of “optional” repeated examinations, expanding the possibilities of data exchange between individual institutions and improving the cost-effectiveness of departments and health care facilities.
