Design of an Automated Dust Collector for Sandblasting Machine to Support the Implementation of a Green Shipyard

Abstract The background of this research is based on the serious problems posed by silica dust exposure due to sandblasting activities in shipyards. It focuses on the development of a “Dust Collector” as part of an “Eco-Automated Sandblasting Chamber”, with the main objective of reducing the negative impact of silica dust in shipyard areas. Based on various literature studies exist on dust collectors and pollution control, this research innovates by designing a more efficient and eco-friendly system, featuring a vacuum exhaust within a portable container and a vibrating sieving device for reusable dust separation. This research involves a design approach. Key stages include literature review, data collection, concept design, technical calculations, detailed engineering design (DED) on “Eco-Automated Sandblasting Chamber”. This research aims to make an innovative design that can significantly contribute to pollution control technology in the shipyard industry and become an innovative solution, widely adopted. The conclusion is to present an innovative design and the effectiveness of the system in reducing dust and waste emissions, improving work safety, and protecting the environment in the shipyard and its surroundings. Sandblasting process, abrassive material, sorting and re-cycle mechanism, dust collector machine.
