Ecosystem-Based Management Strategies For Stunting Decline And Sustaining Marine Resources
Abstract Ecosystem-Based Management (EBM) has emerged as a comprehensive approach to marine resource management, focusing on maintaining ecological health and resource sustainability while addressing critical human health issues, such as stunting. This qualitative research aims to explore the current outcomes of EBM strategies in terms of ecological health, resource sustainability, and their impact on reducing stunting in vulnerable communities. Through a review of existing literature and case studies, the research identifies key successes, such as improved species diversity, habitat conditions, and fish stock levels. However, significant challenges impede the full realization of EBM’s potential, including scientific data gaps, regulatory fragmentation, economic constraints, and social resistance. The study proposes strategies to overcome these barriers, emphasizing the need for enhanced scientific understanding, strengthened governance, stakeholder collaboration, sustainable financing, and capacity building. The findings suggest that effectively implemented EBM strategies can not only sustain marine ecosystems but also contribute to reducing stunting by securing a reliable and nutritious food supply. The research concludes that a concerted effort across multiple sectors is essential for realizing the full benefits of EBM.
