A Transformerless Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter Based on Switched-Capacitor Structure with Reduced Switch Voltage Stress

A transformerless Quadratic DC-DC Boost converter based on a Switched-Capacitor Structure (QBSCS) has been proposed in this paper. Due to the non-ideality of components, the duty ratio limitation of a conventional Quadratic DC-DC Boost converter (QBC) restraints the voltage gain. The QBSCS enhances the voltage conversion ratio while maintaining continuous input current and a common ground shared between the input and output. The switch configuration in the proposed QBSCS reduces the voltage stress across the switches while maintaining high voltage gain. A comprehensive mathematical analysis is presented for each mode of operation, assuming that the proposed QBSCS operates in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM). The proposed converter has been compared with the existing converters based on the nature of input current, conversion ratio, switch voltage stress, and total component count. The QBSCS converter is simulated in MATLAB Simulink in closed-loop control and verified under various operating conditions, and corresponding simulation results are shown to validate its performance.
