Extendable Multisource Multilevel Boosting Inverter

A new switched-capacitor based multisource multilevel inverter for high-frequency AC applications is proposed in this article. The proposed topology can generate 13-level output voltage by utilizing only 11 switches, two diodes, one capacitor, and two asymmetrical dc sources with inherent polarity reversal. The proposed topology and its extension has several advantages such as high voltage gain, less total blocking voltage, less component count, less total harmonic distortion, and higher number of voltage levels. Further, the capacitor is self voltage balanced without any extra balancing circuit. PLECS simulation and laboratory prototype results are presented to verify the operability and feasibility. Finally, a comparative study is also presented to validate the beneficial features of the proposed topology.
