Modelling of Coupled Inductor-Based Single Input Triple Output Boost Converter

Multiple levels of regulated DC voltages are crucial for power modules in various applications. Electric vehicles (EV s), portable electronics, IT and telecommunications, aerospace, and renewable energy are some of the applications requiring multiple voltage levels. Traditionally, multiple voltage levels are provided by several parallelly connected single input single output (SISO) DC-DC converters. However, the need for size reduction has led to the use of single input multiple output (SIMO) DC-DC converters. This paper introduces a specific SIMO converter: the coupled inductor-based single input triple output (CI-SITO) boost converter. Accurate modeling of CI-SITO boost converter is essential for designing control guidelines and predicting performance. However, current literature lacks precise mathematical models for CI -SITO boost converters. CI-SITO converters are compact but suffer from cross-coupling and cross-regulation due to the coupled inductors present in it. Existing research does not analyze the effect of cross-coupling and cross-regulation, on steady state operation of CI-SITO boost converter. This paper develops a mathematical model, state-space average equations, and a small-signal model (SSM) for a CI-SITO boost converter using the state-space averaging method. It also analyzes the effects of cross-coupling and cross-regulation on steady state operation. The model is verified using results from MATLAB/Simulink environment and its derived transfer function model.
