DC-AC Conversion in PV Based Series Modular Converter

This paper explores a DC-AC photovoltaic (PV) based modular multilevel converter (MMC) aimed at optimizing solar energy conversion. With the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions, there is a pressing need for advanced conversion technologies that enhance energy output while ensuring system reliability. The modular multilevel converter architecture supports scalable and flexible configurations, effectively integrating multiple photovoltaic modules. By generating a multi-level output waveform, the converter minimizes harmonic distortion, improving the quality of the resulting AC voltage. The implementation of a derived MMC topology reduces the number of semiconductor switches required, leading to a more compact design and lower component count, which enhances costeffectiveness and simplifies maintenance. Real-time monitoring of capacitor voltages and arm currents enables dynamic adjustment of submodules, allowing the system to optimize performance in response to changing solar irradiance conditions. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the converter's efficiency across various load scenarios. In summary, this DC-AC PV-based modular multilevel converter represents a significant step forward in solar energy conversion technology, offering enhanced efficiency, modularity, and reliability for future photovoltaic systems.
