A High-Voltage Bipolar Pulsed Power Generator Based on a Three-level F-type Inverter

Bipolar Pulsed Power Generators (PPGs) have transformative capabilities in solving medical, residential, and industrial challenges by providing innovative and efficient solutions. This paper introduces a novel high-voltage bipolar PPG utilizing an F-type inverter integrating a front-side boost converter (FSBC). The proposed PPG produces output pulses with high voltage gain when operating at low input DC voltage. The operating principle and circuit structure are discussed in detail. The operation and performance of the proposed generator are presented in two different versions: single-module and multi-module. Multilevel pulses with higher voltage amplitude can be obtained using the multi-module version. The effectiveness of the proposed bipolar PPG is verified by simulation and real-time hardware-based examination of a scaled-down laboratory prototype.
