Three-Phase Decomposition-Based PWM for CMV Elimination in Dual Inverter-Fed Six-Phase Motor Drive Supplied from Single DC Source
A three-phase decomposition-based pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme with bus-clamping for a dual inverter-fed symmetric six-phase motor drive is proposed in this paper. The proposed PWM scheme facilitates elimination of common mode voltage (CMV), a major issue in the inverters operated at high switching frequencies in applications such as propulsion motor in electric aircrafts. This scheme also nullifies the resultant CMV generated across the two three-phase stator winding sets on an average basis, enabling a single battery to supply all the inverters in the system without resulting in circulating currents through the motor windings. Furthermore, the proposed scheme significantly enhances the stator voltage for a given battery voltage compared to a single VSI-fed six-phase drive. The proposed scheme is validated by performing simulations under different operating conditions.
