Binary Search-Based Adaptive P&O MPPT Algorithm for TLBC-Based Photovoltaic System
With the drive to safeguard the environment for future generations, there is a need to incorporate Renewable Energy Sources(RES) into the electrical power grids. Among the prominent RES, the solar photovoltaic (PV) system is of utmost importance for the Indian subcontinent. One drawback of the PV system is the intermittent nature of the PV energy source. In order to extract the maximum available power from the PV system, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms have to be implemented that are fast and can track the maximum power point (MPP). Conventional MPPT algorithms suffer from a jittering effect near the MPP, whereas newer methods are faster but require complex implementation procedures and reset algorithms to work. This paper aims to present a new binary search-based adaptive Preturb and Observe (BSAPO) MPPT algorithm that has a faster convergence speed compared to conventional schemes and minimum jitter near the MPP. The developed algorithm is tested and compared with the conventional Perturb and Observe algorithm experimentally on a Three-Level Boost Converter (TLBC)-based PV system.
