Common-Ground-Type Dual-Source Switched-Capacitor Multilevel Inverter

A novel common-ground-type dual-source switched-capacitor multilevel inverter (CGT-DSSCMLI) for grid-connected application is proposed in this article. The proposed CGT-DSSCMLI topology can generate 11-level output voltage by utilizing only eight switches, three diodes, three capacitors, and two asymmetrical dc sources. The proposed topology has various advantages such as: high voltage gain, less total blocking voltage, less component count, less total harmonic distortion, higher number of voltage levels, and zero ground leakage current. Further, the capacitor is self voltage balanced without any extra balancing circuit. PLECS based simulation results are presented for verification of operability and feasibility. Additionally, a comprehensive comparative study is conducted to validate the advantageous features.
