Adaptive Proportional Integral Regulator for the PV-Shunt Active Power Filter Under Stochastic Solar PV System Behavior

This paper investigates the problems of regulating a 2-stage photovoltaic (PV)-based Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) under distortion grid supply and stochastic PV system behavior. This paper proposes to solve this problem by using a new adaptive proportional integral (API) regulator for DC-link voltage regulation, with adjustable API parameters based on the error voltage at the DClink side, to achieve high and low bandwidth depending on the appetite for disturbance rejection or dynamic performance improvement. The proposed API's accuracy is evaluated using time and frequency domain analysis. The performance of the PV-SAPF system under various grid situations utilizing the suggested control algorithms is then proven using simulation and real-time hardware. The suggested API regulator shown encouraging results in terms of improving system performance under internal/external disturbances when PV-SAPF is used, and the overall harmonic distortion of the grid current is sianificantly within IEEE Std 519–2014 limits.
