Optimized VGG19 Architecture for Precise and Efficient Multi-Class Hair Disease Classification

The study design an effective and correct deep learning model for the classification of hair diseases by considering an optimized VGG19 architecture. The research will automate hair disease detection through the use of a dataset availed from Kaggle, which is balanced and contains 12,000 images divided over ten different hair disease classes. It will involve data pre-processing through the processes of normalization, augmentation of data, and strategic splitting of the dataset to ensure generalization of the model. Callbacks such as ReduceLROnPlateau and ModelCheckpoint improved the model by optimizing learning rates and saved the best performing model states for stable and effective training. Overall, the classification accuracy is 98.64%, and precision, recall, and F1-scores are also very high in all categories, indicating that the model will be able to distinguish between conditions like Alopecia Areata, Folliculitis, and Male Pattern Baldness. The use of balanced data and a refined VGG 19 structure was important in ensuring that overfitting was kept at a minimum and thus leading to a robust model that could hold its own in the real world. This work presents an important milestone in hair disease diagnosis by providing a reliable, high-accuracy tool that could be integrated in the future into mobile diagnostics, thus making it accessible for clinical and remote applications. Future improvements may involve the inclusion of various datasets; the application of advanced architectures clearly holds prospects for further and better work on the robustness of the model.
