Control of a Microgrid Integrated PV-Assisted EV Charging Station for Active Power Management
This paper presents a power management strategy for a microgrid-connected electric vehicle (EV) parking lot, which incorporates photovoltaic (PV) power support. The concept of EV-to-grid (V2G) technology is utilized to manage the microgrid power demands by discharging EV batteries when available, with customer consent. The PV arrays charge the EV batteries, while the microgrid power supplements this when PV power is insufficient and microgrid power is available. An algorithm for this power management strategy is derived, featuring an advanced novel grid integration method which enables the system to withstand adverse microgrid operating conditions. This system not only meets the microgrid power demands but also maintains grid power quality. The Hermite interpolation-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control ensures optimal utilization of the PV arrays, and the grid synchronization method ensures system stability during grid disturbances. System performance is validated using the MATLAB/Simulink platform, demonstrating effectiveness under varying solar irradiance and grid-side power demand conditions. The results confirm the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed power management strategy in maintaining reliable and high-quality power delivery.
