PSO-Based Optimised Type-III Controller for Dual-Input Bipolar Triple-Output Coupled Inductor Buck Converter

This paper explores the modeling and design of a voltage mode control (VMC) for a magnetically coupled dual-input bipolar triple-output (DITO) buck converter. The small-signal model of the converter is developed using the state-space averaging method. The compensator design is based on the model. A Type-III compensator is selected, and its parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO). The PSO-based compensator design technique enhances dynamic performance and addresses cross-coupling and cross-regulation issues inherent in coupled-inductor dc-dc converters. The proposed method provides designers with flexibility in trading off various closed-loop performance parameters. The designed controller is capable of simultaneously regulating three voltage levels: 3.3 volts, −3.3 volts, and 6.6 volts. The proposed methodology demonstrates improved transient responses compared to existing design techniques, with simulation results validating the effectiveness of the approach.
