Improved Boost Type-ANPC 5L Inverter Topology

This letter proposes an Improved boost type ANPC (IBT-ANPC-5L) Inverter topology combining a frontend dc-dc converter with a switched-capacitor module. The proposed topology is realized using switches of low voltage rating, unlike its existing counterparts. Design equations for the capacitors and inductors of the proposed topology are included in the paper, and a detailed loss analysis is performed. The proposed topology is compared in detail to a recently proposed one in terms of cost, component counts, and efficiency. Using a laboratory hardware prototype, the performance of the proposed topology such as modulation index, load variations, etc, is verified and validated at 400W with an efficiency of~97%.
